LinkedIn Publishing is an exciting new way to share your knowledge and expertise with the over 313+ million other members on the site (updated November 2014).
Here’s what LinkedIn has done: They’ve opened up their publishing platform to you as a member, giving you a powerful way to build your professional brand.
This means that when you publish a post on LinkedIn, your original content becomes part of your professional profile, is shared with your trusted network and has the ability to reach the largest group of professionals ever assembled.
And similar to FaceBook, you now have the ability to follow other members who are not in your network and also build your own group of followers.
You’ll continue being able to share your expertise by posting photos, images, videos and your original presentations on SlideShare.
Because you have valuable experience to share.
How it will roll out
Many members already have the ability to publish content on LinkedIn and the capability will be steadily expanding to all members in multiple languages over time.
What exactly is it?
LinkedIn Publishing lets you write longer form posts about your expertise. Posts are shared with your network and the LinkedIn community, and become a part of your LinkedIn profile.
Again, LinkedIn is in the process of rolling out this feature to all members and you’ll see a gray pencil in the update field on your LinkedIn Home page when you’re able to publish posts on LinkedIn.
Posting success tips
When you do get access to this new feature, keep these tips in mind:
– Publish whenever you have something valuable to share with LinkedIn members. In general, the more posts you publish, the more credibility you will build, and the stronger your professional profile will become.
– There are no limits on word count, but the posts that are best received are more than three paragraphs in length.
– Upload pictures, videos, presentations, and documents to add to your content. It helps bring your insights to life and is a good way to showcase concrete examples of your experience.
Another great benefit this new publishing feature offers is that you’ll receive email reports on page views, likes, followers, and other performance metrics. And you can access your metrics at any time from your profile.

Scott R. Kline says
I recently shared my new Headshot Day program and photos on LinkedIn. I got immediate responses. Previously I had posted that I was doing headshots.
I got a phone call from one of my customers who said, “Don’t let them tell you social networking doesn’t work. I saw your post on LinkedIn and I would like to hire you to shoot all my staff headshots.”
LinkedIn posts definitely are seen.
