Your LinkedIn profile is the foundation of your LinkedIn presence.
Your LinkedIn profile tells your viewers who you are and what you can do for them. In short, used effectively, it positions you as credible and legitimate and as a thought leader and expert in your field.
And with a network of more than 330+ million professionals (updated March 2014) at your fingertips on LinkedIn, you have the potential for exposure to a massive audience.
But you might be asking yourself:
How can I make sure I’m attracting the right people?
What steps can I take to increase my visibility on LinkedIn?
How are people finding me on LinkedIn?
If you have these questions, I have good news for you!
When you look at your Who’s Viewed Your LinkedIn Profile screen you can see which actions you took that led to that specific increase in engagement, including making various updates to your profile, endorsing a connection, joining a group or expanding your network.
For example, in my Who’s Viewed Your LinkedIn Profile screenshot above, in the week shown I had 164 profile views and I took 37 Actions including: adding connections, endorsements and editing a position.
This means that taking simple actions on LinkedIn is important for profile views.
But which action led to an increase in views by the type of people you want to get in front of?
Layering who is looking at your LinkedIn profile over the actions you have taken lets you focus on the actions that are most relevant to your business goals, maximizing the engagement your profile receives. In turn, if your LinkedIn profile is properly optimized, this increased engagement can generate more leads for you.
For you, if you are trying to attract new clients or business leads, for example, you can see how many potential partners looked at your profile after you joined an important industry group.
For me, I also see that 51 viewers found me from my LinkedIn Inbox, so I know that interacting with my network there drives engagement with my LinkedIn profile.
Bottom line, you’ll be able to see which actions lead to the more profile views – and then strategically continue those actions that maximize engagement with your LinkedIn profile.
